GMFord To ffer $50 Gift Cards At Auto Show For Test Drives

(GM) and Ford Motor Co. (F) will offer $50 gift cards to lure New York International Auto Show visitors to test drive a vehicle at a dealership as the auto makers continue offering creative incentives to combat slumping showroom traffic. Late last month both GM and Ford outlined new incentive.

The move is hoped to push the United Auto Workers union and bondholders to accept similar concessions. Interim GM Chairman Kent Kresa reportedly said the company would welcome the government’s willingness to let it pay off some of the loans with stock. However such an action could make the federal government a direct shareholder in GM for years.
