Crash puts Wheldon’s string of Homestead victories in jeopardy -…
ESPN – Mar 29, 2008
– New American open-wheel era or not it was pretty much business as usual Saturday night in the IRL IndyCar Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. A Target Chip Ganassi Racing entry this one driven by former series champion Scott Dixon won the season-opener for the third straight year. He took the lead late in the 200-lap race when Tony Kanaan another former champion ran out of luck. And while none of the newcomers making the transition from the Champ Car World Series to the newly unified IndyCar series were able to compete with the leaders forecasts of disaster proved wrong and the newcomers generally stayed out of the way of the faster cars and out of trouble. Dixon the New Zealand driver who lost the IRL IndyCar Series championship to Dario Franchitti when he ran out of fuel on the last lap of the 2007 season got off to a great start with the victory in the Gainsco Indy 300.

(March 29 2008) — On Friday team owner Jack Roush called it “theft. During a visit to the media center at Martinsville Speedway Waltrip glibly referred to “Sway Bar Gate” but it’s clear that Roush isn’t laughing about what he considers the theft of real and intellectual property from a Roush Fenway Racing team’s pit stall last October. The object of Roush’s concern is a proprietary sway bar (or more accurately anti-sway bar) which couples the right and left front-wheel suspensions of a car to reduce roll and sway.

ESPN – Mar 29, 2008
– Dennis Setzer assumed the lead when Kyle Busch had to brake to avoid a crash in front of him Saturday then held on through numerous restarts to win the Kroger 250 Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway. The victory was the first for Dodge since the late Bobby Hamilton won at Mansfield in 2005 and the truck Setzer won in is co-owned by Hamilton’s widow Lori. “The emotions are running high right now” Lori Hamilton said. “We always said after Bobby passed away that if we could build it then we’d do it in honor of him. “For Setzer winning at a track where he and Hamilton dueled also was special.
