– “Weepers” — water seeping through seams in the racing surface at Auto Club Speedway — were a hot topic of conversation among drivers even before Sunday’s Auto Club 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race began. “There’s water running out of the cracks I’m going over in (Turns) 1 and 2 — some pretty good gushers” polesitter Jimmie Johnson radioed to crew chief Chad Knaus as the cars took their pace laps. Jeff Gordon who started second said the problem was worse than it had been when NASCAR stopped Cup practice on Friday. Gordon also questioned the wisdom of starting the race under the wet conditions.
