The tuctuc waslaunched in the famously free-wheeling 19th-century seaside town of Brighton byDominic Ponniah a Swedish-Tamil ‘green’ entrepreneur with a passion for the”slightly scary” thrill of an Indian auto ride and a fascination with itseco-friendly credentials. Itwas the only public transport fleet in the UK to operate on zero-emissionnatural gas fuel. Ponniah proudly claimed it “was the first ‘entirely green’service of its kind anywhere in Europe and indeed theworld”. With the Brighton fleetquickly growing from 12 to 18 as thousands of enchanted customers took a rideevery week Ponniah planned the Indian auto’s roll-out in London many otherBritish cities and as far afield in Europe aspossible.

The Japanese Big Three will continue to perform well based on a continuous demand shift to compact and fuel-efficient cars due to hike in oil prices stricter environmental regulations globally and growing demand in emerging markets including the BRIC (Brazil Russia India China) countries Fitch said in a report. On the other hand the Japanese domestic market has been on a continuous downward trend mainly due to the declining population and the dwindling proportion of younger generation and the lengthening average holding period of a vehicle. In the US market where the Japanese Big Three generate a large part of their earnings Fitch said it expects there will continue to be a negative influence in 2008 from the US subprime issue. However Fitch expects the Japanese Big Three to gain greater market share in the US though the speed of the growth may weaken.

- It should come as no surprise that Patrick Carpentier supports the change in the Sprint Cup qualifying procedure NASCAR announced Monday in which all cars outside the top 35 in owner points — and therefore not locked into the race field — will make their runs as a group at the end of the session. Carpentier must qualify his No. 10 Gillett Evernham Dodge on speed for at least the first five races of 2008 based on owner points earned in 2007. After five races the 2008 owner points become the determining factor. “I think letting all of us outside the top 35 go out at the end of the session helps even out the playing field” Carpentier said.
