In another two decades from now by 2030 India is poised to become the third largest automotive market in the world after the United States and China and India’s automotive industry is likely to reach $145 billion. It is in this backdrop the automobile industry is organising the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi the largest auto show in Asia. The auto lovers will have a glimpse of sparkle and glory of the “Power of Wheel” with the eight-day event starting from January 10 in the capital city of Delhi. The once-in-two-years event with the theme of “Mobility for All” will be attended by the Who’s Who of global as well as the Indian auto industry displaying their machine and technology.

1 in Northern Virginia have auto shop owners and managers concerned about the effects the fees may have on their businesses. All auto shops in Northern Virginia recently received a letter from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority notifying them that starting Jan. 1 they are to charge $10 more for safety inspections and a 5-percent labor charge for repairs. Auto shop owners and managers are lobbying to repeal the taxes and fees which were authorized by the General Assembly last year as part of transportation legislation that is expected to generate $400 million annually for Northern Virginia according to Bill Wiygul co-owner of the family-owned Wiygul Automotive shops scattered through Fairfax County.

Autorickshaw drivers in the north Kerala town of Payyannur have been quietly making news through their “auto court” a self-regulatory mechanism to end the woes of the travelling public as well as give themselves an image makeover. According to U V Ramachandran convener of the Auto Drivers Coordination Committee the court enables a hassle-free journey for passengers and protects the interests of the drivers. “Our committee comprises workers of all unions the CITU (pro-CPM) INTUC (Cong-affiliated) as well as BMS (BJP)” Mr Ramachandran who hails from the CITU wing told Deccan Herald. “No more fleecing of passengers no more refusal to go to inconvenient destinations and no more unscrupulous behaviour” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR Dec 31 Asia Pulse – Promising signs were seen in the Malaysian automotive sector this year after one-and-a-half-years of lacklustre sales thanks to new models easing of restrictions in hire-purchase loans improving consumer confidence and a steady job market. The sector clearly regained momentum in the second half of this year boosted by fiscal stimulus including a significant pay hike for civil servants. But the current impressive run may be affected by rising inflation including the possibility of another hike in petrol price and toll rates. “The Malaysian car industry is going through a new phase a very competitive one. It is an uphill battle for some” said an auto analyst said when commenting on the outlook of the industry.
