SAIC Motor merger with Nanjing Auto aimed at global markets

The merger announced Wednesdaybetween Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC) one of China’s largest cargroups and rival Nanjing Auto is one of the biggest-ever tie-ups betweenmainland vehicle makers. Thedeal is aimed at building the group into a “world-class” firm SAIC chairman HuMaoyuan said at the signing ceremony. “China’s automotive industryneeds to raise its capability to reinvigorate itself and find its own area whereit can compete internationally this is why we must go down the road ofmergers” he said. The SAICbuyout came amid government calls for local car companies to consolidate and enda fierce rivalry that worsened when SAIC and Nanjing both bought parts ofBritain’s MG Rover.

Supported by Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in co-operation with Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) this year will see the largest participation ever from Germany encompassing seven halls says Sonia Prashar General Manager IGCC. All the leading vehicle manufacturers of Germany namely Audi BMW DaimlerChrysler Skoda and Volkswagen are part of the German participation. Similarly Germany’s leading component manufacturers such as Bayer Emitec EDAG Hella Liqui Moly Mahle Mann and Hummel Osram and Schaeffler & ZF Friedrichshafen will be seen at the expo. The German auto industry has continually broken its own records over the past few years and 2007 was no different.
