This is new territory for Edwards as he prepares for Sunday’s Pep Boys Auto 500 Nextel Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. On a weekend Edwards also can clinch his first Busch Series title in the race Saturday at Memphis the focus is not on his accomplishments or his return to the track where he won his first Cup race. Instead it will be on last Sunday’s altercation with teammate Matt Kenseth at Martinsville.

He hopes to stay in the news this weekend by clinching the Busch Series title Saturday at Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington Tenn. Edwards exerted his dominance in the first half of the Busch season winning four times in the first 15 races and building a 662-point lead over Kevin Harvick in second. Since then Edwards’ luck has turned. In the 16 races since his fourth win of the season at Nashville in June Edwards has finished 20th or worse eight times.

After four of the past five races the lead has changed. Last Saturday Mike Skinner got it back by completing the season sweep at Martinsville. He leads Ron Hornaday by 11 points going into Saturday’s 200-mile race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Like the previous race at Talladega the past two races were at tracks where trouble can strike anywhere.
Rockwell Auto buys Pavilion Tech; cites advanced software

said Thursday it would purchase privately-held Pavilion Technologies Inc. a provider of advance process control software for an undisclosed amount. Pavilion’s software helps factory management predict daily production patterns and suggests ways to improve performance a Rockwell Automation spokesman said. The move marks Rockwell’s initial step into a unique niche within the automation products and services sector he said. In addition to providing software for traditional processing industries such as consumer products about 20% of Pavilion’s business is in ethanol production automation.

Several of these auto parts makers are clearly solvent have strong niche businesses with the major automakers and also pay decent dividends. Others have had problems but are taking steps to restructure and could be very interesting going forward. It could still be some time until Detroit regains its popularity on Wall Street but these stocks should benefit disproportionately in a recovery.
