Based on his performance the past three weeks it appears his bad luck hasn’t gone away but he is getting closer to victory lane. Three weeks ago he finished fifth at Talladega. The following week he had the lead at Lowe’s with a few laps remaining only to crash into the wall because of a mechanical failure. Last week at Martinsville he muscled points leader Jeff Gordon out of the way before making a run at eventual winner Jimmie Johnson.

(AP) — An appeals committee overturned Wednesday the $10000 fine levied against a crew chief for Kyle Busch following a Busch Series race in Kansas. Michael Bumgarner was fined after Busch’s win at Kansas Speedway last month because NASCAR said the intake manifold on the Chevrolet did not conform to its standards. In a unanimous decision to overturn the penalty the three members of the National Stock Car Racing Commission said parts of the inspection process were inconclusive. Car owner Rick Hendrick was pleased with the decision.
