The 2007 Indy 500 winner and IndyCar Series champion has agreed to a multiyear deal to replace David Stremme in the No. 40 Dodge for NASCAR’s Chip Ganassi Racing according to a person familiar with the negotiations who requested anonymity because the deal had yet to be announced. Ganassi also fields Nextel Cup cars for rookie Juan Pablo Montoya another former open-wheel star and Reed Sorenson.

‘In spite of the financial market turbulence automakers in general continue to enjoy a strong industrial liquidity position which we consider a necessity in this industrial environment characterised by huge working capital swings and high capital expenditures’ S&P’s credit analyst Maria Bissinger said. S&P added that global automakers’ profits remain under pressure owing to the slow but steady decline in demand for new vehicles in the world’s three largest established auto markets the US Europe and Japan. However the ratings agency said it expects full-year 2007 new car registrations to recover to a level close to the previous year’s reflecting the relatively favourable economic environment and increasing replacement demand.
