He was newly married with a baby on the way his ride with BMW-Sauber seemed secure and he had just launched his second career as a recording artist. Things were so good he dismissed ever returning to the United States to compete in one of its three racing series.

com n the hot seat: Dave Blaney and Bill Elliott The No. 22 Bill Davis Racing Toyota (Blaney) and the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford (Elliott) have been swapping the 35th and 36th positions in owner points. The Wood Brothers grabbed 35th at Watkins Glen with road course ringer Boris Said behind the wheel. Blaney took it back at Michigan with a sixth-place finish his best of the season and held it at Bristol. There’s a lot at stake — not only guaranteed starting positions in remaining 2007 races but also a free pass on qualifying for the first five races of 2008 to the teams in the top 35 at the end of the year.
