ShanghaiAutomotive said on Friday that parent groups of the two companies had signed aletter of intent to discuss ways of achieving a ?complete union?between the firms through business co-operation and restructuring. China?s centralgovernment and local authorities are pushing the tie-up as a way to buildShanghai Auto into a comprehensive auto maker that can compete with EuropeanJapanese and US giants at home and eventually overseas industry sources andanalysts said. ?ShanghaiAuto is number one in the domestic passenger car market. A tie-up would shore upits commercial vehicle segment and boost its overall competitiveness?said Zhang Xin senior industry analyst with Guotai Junan Securities.

‘There is a possibility that (the IP) may happen in September’ Denny said. The proceeds from the IP should be used to double the number of AAA Auto’s branches in central and Eastern Europe by 2009 and triple its sales by 2012 he said. He added the company is in talks to acquire two major new car dealers one in the Czech Republic and one in Slovakia. Denny confirmed earlier reports which said AAA Auto plans to issue shares worth 30 to 40 mln eur.
