Tracy’s 31st career victory and first in the series sincewinning here in 2005 came after he was involved in two earlyaccidents mishaps that forced his pit crew to change his frontwing twice in the first seven laps. “It was by no means a nice comfortable easy pretty win”Tracy said.

Speedway officials have made Wallace the face of Iowa’s firstmajor auto racing facility. Pictures of Wallace adorn theheadquarters and the main road entering the speedway is called”Rusty Wallace Drive. “The track cut out of a swath of cornfields 35 miles east of DesMoines was built to be quicker than the average short oval withvariable banking and tons of grip. Wallace wouldn’t have it anyother way.

Though the victory validated all the hype surrounding Montoya when he joined the Nextel Cup Series he still has a ways to go before he’s a contender every week. His Chip Ganassi Racing Dodges still haven’t proved fast enough on ovals even though Montoya clearly excels at working the controls. He manhandled the car over the last 20 laps at Sonoma while simultaneously managing to save fuel. The list of drivers who can do both is short.

The deal which permanently slashes the wages of Delphi workers to near-poverty levels and replaces pensions with 401(k) plans sets the stage for an unprecedented rollback in the conditions of all US auto workers. The agreement worked out in three-way talks between the UAW Delphi and General Motors which spun off its former parts division in 1999 is being hailed by business leaders and the media. Detroit News columnist Daniel Howes called it the ?Detroit auto equivalent of the fall of the Berlin Wall. ? A top Delphi official praised it as ?a significant milestone in our transformation.
