Chesson thought he was money inGasoline Alley. Somewhere he figured someone would give IndyCar’sself-proclaimed wild man a chance to drive on the craziest day ofqualifying for the Indianapolis 500. After all this was “BumpDay” at the Indianapolis 500 a time when wheeling-and-dealing iscommonplace banzai runs are the norm and wild is fashionable. But when Chesson couldn’t lock up the cash he was out. “It’s been a struggle to find money” said team owner GregBeck who was willing to give Chesson a ride. “It’s pure andsimple we need sponsorship.

– Mat Mladin swept the weekend AMA Superbikeraces at Infineon Raceway on Sunday to tie Yoshimura Suzukiteammate Ben Spies for the series lead. “We came in here trying to get the double win and weaccomplished that” said Mladin the six-time AMA Superbikechampion from Australia. “I’m looking forward to getting up to Road America in a coupleof weeks. I’m sure we’re going to have some good battles as theseason progresses. “Mladin has five wins this year and 56 in his AMA Superbikecareer.
