Truex wins pen to advance to All-Star race – Auto

– Martin Truex Jr. scored a victory for DaleEarnhardt Inc. winning the Nextel pen on Saturday night to earn aspot in NASCAR’s All-Star race. Johnny Sauter finished second to also advance into the All-Starrace at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The Nextel pen is a 40-lap shootout for all drivers not alreadyeligible for the All-Star race.

The rookie driver from Venezuela turned some of her fastest lapsall month to tentatively qualify for the May 27 Indianapolis 500with a four-lap average of 219. Now all she has to do is survive one long Sunday of waiting. Ifshe does it would mark the first time in the 91-year history ofthe race three women have been in the same field. She would join Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher both veterans atIndy on the 33-car grid.
