German auto companies ponder compromise amid strikes

EDT May 3 2007 FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) — Thousands of IG Metall engineering workers on Thursday staged another day of temporary work stoppages at German auto makers and suppliers turning up the pressure ahead of a make-or-break wage round. The meeting between top union and employer representations began meeting in the Southwest city of Sindelfingen late in afternoon. The talks were expected to stretch into the wee hours. Going in employers indicated they hope to reach a new collective bargaining agreement. “We are ready to forge a deal” Jan Stefan Roell head negotiator for the employers’ association in Southwest Germany where the pilot talks for a national agreement are held.

– NASCAR driver Scott Wimmer has filed a lawsuit against former employer Bill Davis Racing asking for $1. 2 million in unpaid salary for the 2006 season. Wimmer now driving a part-time NASCAR Busch Series schedule for Richard Childress Racing filed the suit Monday in Superior Court.
