Power will start on the pole Sunday after clocking thesecond-fastest lap on Saturday. Bourdais the defending championwill start on the outside of the front row but only because he wonthe provisional pole Friday. “I think I am the kind of guy that admits when I have donesomething wrong and I do not think this is the case” Bourdaissaid. “It would not have changed the outcome whether I interferedon that lap tried to get out of the way or anything.

A veteran of more than 30 years in NASCAR Nextel Cup racing Rudd’s taking the green flag for Saturday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway tied him with Dave Marcis for second on the all-time list for career starts with 883. Richard Petty accumulated 1185 starts during his career a record that’s perhaps as untouchable as the King’s 200 victories. Among active drivers the closest to Rudd is Kyle Petty whose 793 starts place him sixth on the all-time list. Rudd finished 11th in his Cup debut at Rockingham in March of 1975.

– Next time Kyle Busch will check with his team before leaving the track. After crashing at Texas Motor Speedway last Sunday Busch left the track and headed to the airport. He didn’t realize his crew was repairing his Chevy. jumped in the car and finished the race earning Busch three NASCAR Nextel Cup points.
