Consumers in Canada are faced with losing their rights to repair their automobiles with the mechanics and independent repair garages they have trusted for years as the auto manufacturers continually develop vehicles that are controlled by computers. Unfortunately we’re just experiencing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to controlled auto repair. The auto makers have increasingly installed more computerized onboard diagnostics in order to have the consumers return to the dealership for most auto repairs. In the United States legislation called the Right To Repair Act was being promoted to Congress which will require auto makers to make a car’s software information and tools available to repair shops. The Right to Repair Act is supported by virtually all North America aftermarket associations except the Automotive Service Association (ASA) which represents a group of technicians many of whom oppose their Association’s stand. Donny Seyfer the technician in the article happens to be the education director for the ASA and has an obvious bias with his “story.

Twenty-four-year-old Ch. Srinivas a resident of Premnagar in Erragadda was driving a seven-seater autorickshaw along with some passengers when the traffic police intercepted him in front of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University at Kukatpally on Thursday and checked him with a breath analyser. In the test it was found that Srinivas had consumed 180 mg liquor while driving. A case under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act was booked against the driver according to Kukatpally traffic police station Inspector A.
