The European Commission plans to introduce mandatory C2-emission limits for cars a move fiercely criticized by Germany’s auto industry. “The German government will advocate for a sectoral reduction with all its power and energy” Merkel said at a conference on Europe organized by German business groups. “And I think I can go so far as to say that we will prevent a general reduction. At any rate I will do what ever I can to prevent this.

Launching the Automotive Mission Plan 2006-2016 Dev said theplan envisages a substantive increase in turnover from the currentUS$35 billion ($A453) to US$145 billion to account for 10 per centof the country’s gross domestic product. It also sees providing employment to 25 million people by thetarget year. Dev stressed the need for increasing the current export of theautomotive sector from US$4. 1 billion now to a minimum of US$35billion.
