Ford reports worst loss in auto maker’s history

Ford’s loss reported yesterday was the worst in the company’s 103-year history and came amid slumping demand for sport utility vehicles and other gas guzzlers and huge restructuring costs tied in part to the planned closing of 16 plants. Last year’s loss surpassed Ford’s old record of $7. 39 billion set in 1992.

Despite the 25-year friendship between Penske and Wallace his star in the No. 2 car there was no stopping the ego that roared. Even someone of Penske’s stature couldn’t expect Wallace the 1989 Cup champion to play nice with Newman a younger formidable opponent who Wallace claimed didn’t respect him. f course Newman’s early success exacerbated the problem.

Auto-parts maker’s loss widens

David Bailey reuters news agency Lear Corp. CHICAG–Auto-parts supplier Lear Corp. reported a wider quarterly loss yesterday after a charge for the sale of its North American auto interiors unit and vehicle production cuts by the Big Three auto makers. However Lear’s results excluding one-time items exceeded analysts forecasts and its shares rose as much as 7 per cent to the highest level since September 2005. Lear said it expects North American production to be down about 2 per cent in 2007 on vehicles for which it supplies parts to General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group.
