– Ford Motor Company said Wednesday it has withdrawn as an official Champ Car World Series sponsor. Ford had participated in Champ Car and its predecessor CART since re-entering open-wheel racing in 1992 first providing engines and then sponsorship.
German ministers favour cap on auto C2

BRUSSELS–Political support for capping carbon-dioxide emissions from cars grew yesterday as European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and two ministers from auto powerhouse Germany backed binding EU limits. The EU executive said on Monday it had delayed proposals on curbing carbon dioxide or C2 from cars by "a couple of weeks" because of disagreement over whether targets should be binding. But despite opposition from the auto industry Germany’s environment and transport ministers called for mandatory EU guidelines to stem output of the greenhouse gas. Under a voluntary deal major European Japanese and Korean car makers agreed to cut C2 emissions by 25 per cent of 1995 levels by 2008 or 2009 with further cuts by 2012. So far the EU says emissions have fallen by 12.
