The country’s top economic planner said in a circular dated Dec 20 that China’s total automaking capacity will increase to 10 mln units next year from eight mln in 2005 with utilization only at 71. 5 pct in 2005 for the overall industry and 72. 5 pct for the passenger vehicle sector. ‘The auto industry’s technology and product upgrade process is slow.

  met with the chairman of Toyota Motor Corp. as the first step in potential partnership negotiations the Japanese business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun said Tuesday. The newspaper reported in its online edition that Ford CE Alan Mulally and Toyota?s Chairman Fujio Cho met last week. The meeting was also attended by Ford Executive Vice President Mark Fields who is in charge of restructuring the automaker?s loss-making North American operations the newspaper said.
