However with only 18 days to go before the deadline there are almost 1900 auto-rickshaws still to be converted. f the 9085 auto-rickshaws in the city and in Pimpri-Chinchwad that were asked to switch over to LPG as per the directions of the Bhurelal Committee only 7112 were converted by the end of November. According to RT officials 3700 auto-rickshaws have converted to LPG while 1515 have cancelled their registration. The Bhurelal Committee extended the deadline twice for the conversion after auto-rickshaw associations and RT officials convinced it regarding the crunch for LPG kits in the city.

Volkswagen leases land in Arizona for new auto proving ground

successfully bid $55 million (€41. 69 million) for a 25-year lease on 11900 acres (4800 hectares) in the desert west of Phoenix for a new automobile proving ground. Arizona State Land Commissioner Mark Winkleman said Volkswagen has an existing proving ground in Arizona but the company wanted to find a new location that would meet its needs for a large remote location near a major metropolitan area. After considering a number of sites including at least three in other states Volkswagen decided to stay in Arizona and bid for the new site located 10 miles (16 kilometers) west of Gila Bend.

Dinesh Chairman Auto SCM India 2006 the industry needs to adopt a responsive cost supply chain at low costs. Speaking at Auto SCM India 2006 a two-day seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Institute of Logistics he said a robust supply chain could ease margin pressures on companies. For instance transportation a major supply chain activity is often managed in-house leading to high expenditure and at times delay.

Tata Motors & Fiat auto announce forming a joint venture in India

The agreement calls mainly for the creation and establishment of an industrial joint venture in India located at the Fiat plant at Ranjangaon in the State of Maharashtra. With capacities to produce in excess of 100000 cars and 200000 engines and transmissions yearly at steady state the Ranjangaon plant will manufacture vehicles for the Indian and overseas markets. Both Fiat and Tata vehicles will be manufactured at the same facility which will be managed equally by the two Shareholder Partners. Fiat Auto will introduce its premium cars for the B and C segments namely the Fiat Grande Punto and the Fiat Linea whose worldwide premiere occurred at the Istanbul Motorshow in early November.
