– Sporting News has learned that Roush Racing will announce Sunday that Ameriquest Mortgage currently a sponsor for Roush in the NASCAR Busch Series will step up and take over as the primary sponsor of the No. 16 Nextel Cup Ford driven by Greg Biffle. Biffle’s sponsor the U. Army National Guard will leave the organization.

— The honeymoon continues for Jeff Gordon who led NASCAR Nextel Cup Series qualifiers Friday at Phoenix International Raceway. The four-time series champion married Belgian model Ingrid Vandebosch in Mexico on Tuesday and brought her to the track to help him celebrate winning the 56th pole of his career. He turned a lap of 134. 464 mph in his Chevrolet to take the top spot for Sunday’s Checker Auto Parts 500. “It’s been a great week I’ll tell you that” Gordon said.
